Château Vieux Guillou

2° nom de château : Terre Bleue

Château Vieux Guillou is located 2km from the center of Saint-Émilion on the hills of the former commune of Saint-Georges, facing the famous medieval village.

This property has been passed down within the same family for over two centuries and now extends over approximately fifteen hectares.

Yannick Menguy has been managing this estate for about thirty years and continues the family tradition of welcoming visitors to the property to market these wines exclusively through direct sales – wines that have long displayed the exceptional characteristics of the greatest crus.

The diversity of plots on clay-limestone soil and the exposure on fully sun-drenched hillsides promote perfect grape maturation. The age of the grape varieties, primarily Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and the finesse of their blending also contribute to creating a subtle complexity in the wines.

Vinification and aging are carried out in concrete vats, stainless steel tanks, and oak barrels, with wines offered for sale on average 5 years after harvest. They can be consumed immediately but are wines for cellaring that can be kept for over 15 years.

Tasting these carefully selected vintages reveals very fine, silky, and elegant tannins with a long, round, and fleshy expression of candied red fruits with violet perfume.

To better appreciate the velvety texture of these complex and powerful vintages, aeration for one hour, either in a decanter or with an aerator, is always recommended, as well as tasting at tasting room temperature.
