Château Saint-Georges

2° nom de château Puy Saint-Georges
Also referred as the “Little Versailles of Saint-Émilionnais”, Château Saint-Georges embodies over two thousand years of wine-growing history. The estate is located on the highest hill of the Saint-Georges Saint-Émilion appellation, where the Latin poet Ausone once owned a vineyard.
Initially a Gallo-Roman villa, then a medieval fortress, the château was metamorphosed in the 18th century by architect Victor Louis into an elegant chartreuse. In 1602, Henri IV sold it to Jean Barbot, a lawyer at the Bordeaux Parliament.
After the phylloxera crisis, the domain was entirely replanted by Pétrus Desbois. In 2013, Jean-Philippe Janoueix joined the Desbois family, becoming the principal owner and continuing the wine-growing heritage of this remarkable place.
The vineyard spans 44 hectares of the confidential Saint-Georges Saint-Émilion appellation. The clay-limestone terroir of this emblematic domain, magnificently exposed to the south, features a grape variety emphasizing Merlot (80%), complemented by Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon (20%). It produces wines characterized by their roundness and structure.
With an annual production of 280,000 bottles and a potential aging capacity of 10 to 15 years, Château Saint-Georges embodies the excellence of Bordeaux wine-growing tradition.
