Château La Couronne

In 1994, Thomas Thiou, a former Parisian wine merchant aged 27, fulfilled his dream by acquiring this small family estate of 11.22 hectares located at the top of the southern hillside facing the village of Saint-Émilion, on the terroirs of Montagne Saint-Émilion (6.27 ha) and Saint-Georges Saint-Émilion (4.95 ha).

The estate has an ancient history, with certain plots being listed as cultivated with vines in Pierre de Beylleme’s survey conducted at the end of the 18th century.

Thomas Thiou cultivates this vineyard planted exclusively with Merlot on clay-limestone soils and clay on Agenais molasse.

With a planting density of 5,700 to 6,700 vines per hectare and an average age of 25 to 30 years, the vines benefit from natural grass cover and traditional cultivation including mixed Guyot pruning, debudding, leaf removal, and green thinning.

Accompanied by three collaborators trained on the property, he performs all green work manually, vine by vine, in a constant pursuit of excellence. This team then supervises 25 harvesters during the entirely manual harvests with sorting in the vineyard.

Traditional vinification uses only natural yeasts.

The estate’s signature wine, La Couronne Réserve is crafted from plots vinified and aged separately before final blending to offer a rich and balanced wine with aromas of dark fruits and spices.

Visit and tasting by appointement.
