Château Haut Troquart

Established in 1810 by the ancestors of Mr. Tourriol, the Clos Haut Troquart estate has been home to several generations of winemakers. In 1946, Mr. Tourriol took over the operation from his grandmother before selling a large portion of the property to Joël Apollot in 1993, who had already been managing the estate since 1982. Gradually, Joël Apollot expanded the operation to reach today’s 6 hectares.

Located in the commune of Montagne, within the Saint-Georges-Saint-Émilion appellation, the Clos Haut Troquart vineyard extends across several plots with clay-limestone soils, imparting body, longevity and finesse to the wines. The grape varieties comprise 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc, with a planting density of 5,500 vines per hectare and an average vine age of 45 years.

Viticulture prioritizes quality: natural grass cover, simple Guyot pruning, integrated pest management and rigorous selections (debudding, green harvesting, leaf removal). Mechanical harvesting is complemented by manual sorting. Fermentation takes place in concrete and stainless steel vats with 3 to 4-week macerations, followed by aging in vats and French oak barrels for 10 to 12 months.

The “Jeanne de Troquart” cuvée, created for the birth of the owners’ granddaughter, represents a selection from old vines averaging 60 years. Crafted from 100% Merlot with manual harvesting and 18-month aging in new oak barrels, this exclusive cuvée of 1,500 bottles is sold exclusively in wooden cases of 6 bottles.
